Fix Your Blind Spots
If I can’t see them, how can I fix them? That is a valid question.
A better question would be: why can’t I see my blind spots? Many years ago when I was single and a smoker, I went to see my friend’s mother to get council on how to get rid of that sinful habit. She said we don’t know that smoking is a sin; it will shorten your life and hinder where God wants to take you! But the true sin is that you are living in sexual immorality!! Why don’t you focus on what you know to be sin? That was not what I wanted to hear. I did an excellent job of blinding myself to that area of my life. Could it be that we keep our blind spots very well guarded? Once a light is shined on them we are faced with a choice: do I fix it or do I justify it and become unteachable in that area? The problem with being unteachable, is that it spreads to other areas of our lives. We compensate by trying to do good things, thinking it will make up for not doing the right things! When a blind spot is brought to light don’t be defensive. Take it to God, pray for the desire to walk away from it, get it fixed. It’s counterfeit, God wants us to have the real thing.
