The Battle Belongs To The LORD

The Bible teaches God’s ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts, as high as the heavens are above the Earth.  How does this apply to our battles?

While reading Joshua I realized when we think of a battle, we think in terms of two sides fighting each other.

Joshua was near Jericho, preparing to battle soldiers standing on top of the 13′ high walls. He looked up and saw the man standing in front of him with a sword in his hand and asked; “Are you one of us or one of our enemies?” His answer was surprising, “Neither one! I am here as the commander of the Lord’s army.” This makes a lot of scriptures come alive. It brings the battle belongs to the Lord to a whole new level. And “Hold your peace and let the Lord fight your battles”  (Don’t get in the way).

Joshua Immediately, bowed with his face touching the ground and worshiped. “Sir, what do you want me to do” Basically, (what’s my part), he was given an object lesson in Proverbs. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding“.  “In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path“. The strategy God gave him was so far above human understanding as high as the heavens are above the Earth. Joshua’s path made no logical sense. The Army marched around the city for seven days. On the 7th day they marched around the walls seven times, blue trumpets and shouted. The walls fell “flat”.

In the natural, we see a very small part of the battle. To see what the whole battle would looks like, we can go to a situation in 2:Kings. A powerful army was sent to capture Elijah. Elisha prayed, for the Lord, to open his scared servant’s eyes, and he saw that the hillside around Elisha was filled with horses and chariots of fire. That’s the part of the battle we don’t see.

We start looking for God to partner with us and help us with something we are battling. Our problem is, we don’t know what our problem is, but we expect God to solve what we think is the problem. We can’t see the real battle until it’s over and we collect the evidence of things did not seen at the time. We must see our battles and trials through the eye of faith because the test is always about the same thing. “TRUST”! God wants us to partner with Him and trust His process and His outcome. We must ask (what’s my part). If we don’t get an answer, it’s because we do not need to know our part yet. God knows that, if we know our part too soon, our logic would mess with His plain. God may not have “our” answer but He always has “the” answer because God’s is “the” answer.

Many times, we become distracted by the physical battle and are lured into the trap. The trap is believing that some battles are spiritual, and some battles are physical. The truth is all battles are spiritual, Some within us, some outside of us. The enemy starts the battle by creating circumstances outside of us in the hope that we will step into the trap of internalizing it.
